Mr. Hitaffer joined Goodman Allen & Filetti in October 2008 as a Principal in the Intellectual Property Practice Group. He has extensive experience in intellectual property matters, including preparation and prosecution of patent and trademark applications, conducting examiner interviews, preparing briefs and arguments for appeals before the Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences, managing foreign filings and participating in post-grant proceedings, including re-examination and reissue proceedings. Mr. Hitaffer counsels clients in various intellectual property matters and assists in managing intellectual property portfolios. He also has experience in licensing patents and technology, and provides product clearance, invalidity and non-infringement opinions. In addition, he aids clients in monitoring competitor patent activities, investigates controversies, and assists in the enforcement of intellectual property rights.

Prior to joining Goodman Allen & Filetti, Mr. Hitaffer was associated with an intellectual property boutique, where he represented independent inventors, small businesses and large corporate clients in a wide range of technologies. His practice focuses on the mechanical and electro-mechanical arts, as well as software and business method patents. He has comprehensive experience working with automotive technologies, including interior component parts, frames, axles, drive shafts, transmissions, braking and occupant safety systems; building materials, including insulation and roofing systems, composites solutions and asphalt products, as well as processes, machines, and tools for making the same; metal-cutting products, including drills, drill inserts and saws; disability products, including wheelchairs, walking aids, beds, respiratory products and daily living aids, as well as a host of other technologies.

Mr. Hitaffer has operated a patent research service as a public searcher, and is uniquely familiar with various research tools and techniques. He also has experience with various aspects of automobile restoration and building construction, and is intimately familiar with a myriad of mechanical and electro-mechanical tools, devices and equipment, all of which contribute to his deep understanding of diverse forms of technology.
