Phyllis Rubinstein has devoted her career to representing clients in complex commercial real estate acquisitions, leasing and financing transactions, including securitized loan transactions. Her real estate practice encompasses all aspects of commercial real estate, including the purchase, sale and financing of mixed-use retail, multi-family and office projects; industrial sites; commercial condominium projects, including medical office buildings and assisted living facilities. She routinely handles transactions involving federal and state tax credits such as historical preservation projects and conservation easements. She also represents commercial lenders and financial institutions in loan restructurings and drafting of forbearance agreements, deed in lieu and foreclosure documents and the disposition of REO property.

Ms. Rubinstein frequently represents clients in complex CMBS loan transactions involving multi-million dollar credit facilities to multiple borrowers holding real estate assets in multiple jurisdictions. She has represented investment banks in the purchase of non-performing loans and REO property from the RTC and other financial institutions.

Ms. Rubinstein has served in leadership positions of the Real Property Section of the American Bar Association for over 20 years and currently serves on the Boards of the First Freedom Center and the Enterprise Circle of the Jewish Federation of Richmond. She is a past chair of the Richmond Business Council of the Greater Richmond Chamber and has served on the Boards of Jewish Family Services and the Virginia Breast Cancer foundation.

Ms. Rubinstein is consistently recognized by her peers for her work in real estate and has been named as one of Virginia's Legal Elite for real estate and business law since 2004 by Virginia Business Magazine. She has also been recognized as one of the "Best Lawyers in America" and is a Fellow of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers. In 2010, on the 29th anniversary of the founding of Richmond's CREW (Commercial Real Estate Women) Chapter, Ms. Rubinstein was named by that organization as one of the Top 20 Women in Commercial Real Estate in the Metropolitan Richmond Area. Ms. Rubinstein has published numerous articles and is a frequent speaker on commercial real estate issues.

Before Joining Goodman Allen & Filetti, Ms. Rubinstein was a shareholder at LeClairRayn in its Real Estate Group in Richmond, Virginia.
